Apple is planning some major new AI-powered health capabilities for its products. Here's a preview of what's in store, according to a new Bloomberg report:

  • Apple Watch will gain a new sensor to detect when your blood pressure is elevated. It will also be able to monitor your sleep and breathing patterns to predict if you may have sleep apnea.

  • AirPods will gain new features to work as over-the-counter hearing aids.

  • Vision Pro headset will get anti-anxiety and workout features

Apple's upcoming AI-powered health features have the potential to revolutionize the way we monitor and manage our health. We can anticipate more innovations like this as AI healthcare tech keeps evolving.

AI ROBOTICS

China Sets Sights on Mass Production of Humanoid Robots by 2025

China's humanoid robot industry is poised for rapid growth, with the government setting ambitious plans to mass-produce humanoid robots by 2025.

Details:

  • By 2025, China aims to have 2-3 world-leading robotics companies and a cluster of specialized SMEs.

  • They plan to focus R&D on AI "brains" for autonomy and decision-making as well as lightweight, high-precision "limbs" for mobility and dexterity.

  • Applications include electronics, automotive, healthcare, logistics - even replacing humans in dangerous industrial environments!

With the global humanoid robotics market projected to experience a compound annual growth rate of 21.1% from 2023 to 2030, success could position China as a leader in what many see as a key technological frontier.

AI RESEARCH

Jailbreaking GPT-4 Using Rare Languages

Source: Brown University

Researchers at Brown University have uncovered a clever way to jailbreak large language models like GPT-4 using rare, lesser-used languages.

Details:

  • In tests, translating unsafe prompts from English into rare languages allowed malicious commands to bypass GPT-4's safety filters up to 79% of the time

  • Existing safety measures focus on blocking unsafe English prompts, leaving the model vulnerable to rare language attacks

  • Languages like Zulu and Scottish Gaelic were highly effective at sneaking past GPT-4's defenses

  • The researchers call this technique "translation-based jailbreaking"

As AI becomes more powerful and ubiquitous, we need to ensure safety measures are comprehensive across languages. This study shows there's still work to be done.

Elon Musk's AI startup to unveil new model

Source: X.AI

Elon Musk's artificial intelligence startup xAI will release its first AI system on Saturday. The model comes almost a year after ChatGPT's launch and has been described by Musk as the "best that currently exists." xAI was founded in July by former Google and Microsoft researchers. Though separate from Musk's Twitter, xAI works closely with the social media firm as well as Tesla.

Musicians cautious over AI despite potential

Source: Pirate.com

In a recent survey of more than 1,000 artists, over half of them expressed concern about audience perception of AI-created music, although many recognize its creative potential. Artists have found AI useful for songwriting and production, but worry it risks "loss of authenticity." Experts liken AI to past innovations like autotune - initially controversial but now a studio staple.

UK bets big on AI with new Supercomputer

Source: University of Bristol

The UK government has awarded £225 million to Bristol University to build Isambard-AI, set to be the nation's most powerful supercomputer. With capabilities 10x greater than existing systems, the AI-focused machine will empower discoveries in fields like climate, healthcare, and more. Announced at last week's AI Safety Summit, the tech represents a bold bet on British leadership in artificial intelligence.
