Anthropic Seeks $750 Million in Funding 💸

Anthropic, a startup founded by ex-OpenAI senior members, is hitting the fundraising circuit again in a major way. The company is reportedly seeking to raise $750 million in fresh funding led by top VC firm Menlo Ventures.
Details:
Menlo Ventures is expected to invest between $400 million and $500 million in the round. If successful, the new cash would value the startup at a staggering $18.4 billion.
Founded by siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei, Anthropic has gained recognition with its AI model, Claude, positioning it as a direct competitor to OpenAI’s popular ChatGPT.
Anthropic enjoys backing from tech giants Google and Amazon, with both companies having already made billion-dollar investments in the startup.
If Anthropic secures the $750 million in funding, it would be a huge vote of confidence in the startup's ability to compete head-to-head with leading AI firms. The company is aiming to position itself to stand out from the pack.

Pulitzer-Winning Authors Join Copyright Lawsuit Against OpenAI and Microsoft
A group of renowned nonfiction authors recently joined an ongoing lawsuit alleging copyright infringement by leading AI firms OpenAI and Microsoft.
Details:
11 authors, including Pulitzer Prize winners Taylor Branch, Stacy Schiff, and Kai Bird, filed an amended complaint in federal court this week
They claim OpenAI and Microsoft violated copyrights by scraping their full-text works without permission to train AI systems like ChatGPT
This is one more of several cases brought by groups of copyright owners, including authors John Grisham, George R.R. Martin, and Jonathan Franzen, against OpenAI and other tech companies.
The case puts two AI heavyweights against a group of acclaimed authors in a high-stakes battle. The outcome could shape industry practices and business models going forward.

AI helps diagnose childhood autism with 100% accuracy

An AI algorithm has shown remarkable accuracy in diagnosing childhood autism simply by screening retinal photographs. In a new study from South Korea, the deep learning model correctly picked out every child with autism from a sample of nearly 1,000 participants based on subtle features in images of the retina.
Details:
958 children around age 8 took part, half with an autism diagnosis
AI achieved 100% accuracy in identifying children with autism
Also showed "acceptable" accuracy for gauging symptom severity
With further validation, AI-based screening of readily captured retina photos could soon offer a rapid, non-invasive way to spot early signs of autism, paving the way for timely interventions.

This large language model can create and edit videos of variable lengths from just text prompts, controlling motions, styles, and even camera movements. It integrates capabilities like text-to-video, image-to-video, stylization, inpainting, and audio generation into one model for versatility.
