Anthropic Scientists Reveal How AI Actually ‘Thinks’
Anthropic researchers have developed new techniques to examine the internal workings of LLMs, diving into how these AI systems process information, make decisions, and come up with their responses.

One of the problems with today’s powerful LLMs is that the models are black boxes. We know the inputs and outputs, but exactly how they arrive at any particular response is a mystery, even to the AI researchers who build them.
By utilizing methods inspired by neuroscience, such as "circuit tracing" and "attribution graphs," the scientists mapped out specific pathways activated during tasks to monitor how these models work their way to an answer.
This approach uncovered that AI models like Claude, plan ahead when writing poetry, use the same internal blueprint to interpret ideas regardless of language, and sometimes even work backward from a desired outcome instead of simply building up from the facts.
There are still some limitations—these techniques capture only a fraction of the total computation performed by these models, and analyzing the results remains labor-intensive.
This research represents a step toward AI interpretability and could help researchers better audit these systems for issues that might remain hidden during conventional external testing, potentially making models not only safer but also more reliable.

OpenAI Close to Finalizing $40B SoftBank-Led Funding
OpenAI is reportedly close to finalizing a $40 billion funding round led by SoftBank Group Corp., which would value the company at approximately $300 billion—nearly doubling its previous valuation.
Details:
SoftBank will initially put in $7.5 billion, with an additional $2.5 billion coming from an investor syndicate.
Investors in this round will also include Magnetar Capital, Coatue Management, Founders Fund, and Altimeter Capital Management.
OpenAI expects to more than triple its revenue this year, reaching $12.7 billion.
However, the company still faces significant costs from chips, data centers, and talent and doesn’t expect to be cash-flow positive until 2029.
The funding round highlights investors' strong confidence in OpenAI, a company experiencing rapid growth, leading AI advancements, and that always manages to stay in the spotlight, as shown by its recent viral success with new image generation capabilities.

OpenAI has temporarily imposed a rate limit on image generation requests due to unexpectedly high demand. "Our GPUs are melting," said Sam Altman, adding that the company is working on ways to make image generation more efficient.
The surge in demand has also forced OpenAI to delay access to the built-in image generator for free-tier ChatGPT users.
The improved version is better at handling detailed instructions, especially for multi-task prompts, and its programming capabilities and complex problem-solving skills have also been optimized.
The new AI-powered service helps users discover products tailored to their hobbies and preferences.
The funding round, led by Radical Ventures, included participation from Felicis and over a dozen angel investors. Yutori, founded by two former Meta executives, focuses on developing personal AI assistants to automate digital tasks.
