BASED HARDWARE

This AI Friend Wants to Read Your Thoughts 🧠

Based Hardware announced its new “brain interface” wearable, Omi, at CES 2025 in Las Vegas.

Details:

  • The $89 device is designed to boost productivity and can be worn as a necklace or attached to the side of the head using medical tape.

  • Omi constantly listens to your conversations, summarizes them, and provides useful information.

  • For now, the brain-computer interface allows it to know when it is being addressed, meaning it doesn’t need a wake word like most AI assistants. But that’s just the beginning—the startup aims to have Omi “eventually understand and save your thoughts” within two years, potentially changing the way we use AI devices.

  • There’s also an Omi app store that already boasts 250 apps, with tools that integrate with platforms like Zapier and Google Drive.

  • Additionally, Omi lets users create AI "Personas" based on public figures, offering virtual mentorship or assistance.

The device is still in its infancy, but it is certainly aiming high. How would people feel about wearing it if it could truly understand their thoughts? đŸ€”

TripAdvisor announced a collaboration with Perplexity designed to improve how travelers plan their journeys. The partnership integrates Tripadvisor’s extensive travel resources with Perplexity’s advanced search capabilities.

Details:

  • Perplexity now presents a curated list of hotels with detailed summaries on why they’re recommended, using data directly sourced from Tripadvisor. It also displays images, ratings, and key perks like “location” and “cleanliness.”

  • Perplexity aims to expand this integration to include recommendations for restaurants and activities. It already added Yelp data last year.

  • The initial features are live on Perplexity.com and soon on their mobile apps.

This is not Tripadvisor’s first foray into AI. The company announced its integration of OpenAI for trip planning in mid-2023.

AI Tutorial

How to create customizable AI podcasts in minutes

  1. Sign up on the Jellypod website to start with 1,000 free credits.

  2. Select “Create New Podcast” and provide details such as the title, description, and type.

  3. Click “Create New Host” to design your podcast hosts. Give them names, backstories, and personalities that shape their interactions.

  4. Choose their voices. You can create a custom voice based on their backstories, select from 30+ professional voices, or clone your own voice for an AI version of yourself.

  5. Select your generated hosts. Unlike similar tools like NotebookLM, this one allows you to add more than two hosts.

  6. Once that’s done, click “Create Podcast” to proceed.

  7. Generate an episode by pasting URLs, YouTube links, or uploading files as sources.

  8. Edit the transcript created for the episode to refine what your hosts will say.

  9. Generate the audio when you're happy with the transcript.

Each minute of audio uses 60 credits.
