All Major AI Announcements at Microsoft Ignite 2023 Event 💥

This week, at its 2023 Ignite conference, Microsoft has unleashed a barrage of groundbreaking announcements and revelations, particularly in the realm of AI. Here are the most relevant ones:

  1. Bing Chat is now Copilot

Bing Chat, the AI chatbot Microsoft launched earlier this year, has been renamed to Copilot.

Microsoft now offers Copilot as its free AI chatbot, while the paid option, Copilot for Microsoft 365, is also available. The free Copilot version can be accessed in Bing and Windows, and it now has its own dedicated domain at copilot.microsoft.com, similar to ChatGPT.

The move aims to help Microsoft compete with ChatGPT and other AI chatbots gaining popularity.

  1. New Custom AI Chips Maia 100 and Cobalt 100

Microsoft unveiled two new custom AI chips designed in-house for its data centers: Maia 100 and Cobalt 100. These new chips aim to optimize AI workloads and boost performance across Microsoft's cloud services.

Maia 100 is a 5nm chip with over 100 billion transistors, specialized for training and running large AI models. Cobalt 100 is a 128-core CPU chip built on Arm architecture, focused on efficiency and performance for cloud-native workloads.

Both chips will start rolling out to Microsoft data centers in early 2024, with second-gen hardware already in development.

  1. New AI tools for Copilot

Copilot for Azure - This new chatbot acts as an AI assistant for Azure users, making cloud configuration and troubleshooting easier. It can understand natural language queries and take actions in the Azure portal.

  1. Azure AI Speech Text to Speech Avatar and Personal Voice

Microsoft introduced the Azure AI Speech Text to Speech Avatar, a tool that allows users to create avatar videos by uploading images and writing a script. Additionally, they announced the Personal Voice tool, which can replicate a user's voice within seconds, requiring only a one-minute speech sample as an audio prompt.

  1. Expanded generative AI copyright protections

Microsoft has expanded its policy to protect commercial customers using Azure OpenAI Service. This policy includes defending and compensating customers in the event of copyright infringement lawsuits arising from Azure OpenAI Service or its outputs.

Transforming 2D to 3D in Seconds: Adobe's Breakthrough AI for 3D Modeling

Source: yiconghong.me/LRM/

In a major advance for AI-enabled 3D content creation, A team of researchers from Adobe Research and Australian National University have developed an AI model that can create detailed 3D models from single 2D images in just 5 seconds.

Details:

  • The model is called Large Reconstruction Model (LRM)

  • It uses a 500 million parameter transformer model trained on 1 million 3D objects

  • LRM can generate high-quality 3D models from real photos or AI-generated images

  • It has huge potential to transform and expedite 3D modeling for games, animation, industrial design, and AR/VR

The AI model has some limitations like blurry textures, but it's a major advance in the field of single-image 3D reconstruction
