Australian Radio Station Secretly Used an AI Host for Six Months

Every weekday at 11 a.m., a young DJ goes on air at CADA, a radio station in Sydney’s west owned by one of Australia’s biggest media companies. But Thy, as she is known, isn’t real.
Details:
Workdays with Thy looks and sounds much like any other radio program — but its host, who presents a four-hour mix of hip hop, R&B, and pop, is the work of AI.
The radio host’s voice and likeness are modeled after a real employee from the company’s financial department, with the voice being generated using ElevenLabs technology.
The program attracts an audience of at least 72,000 people, according to reports.
This isn't the only recent example of AI content going unnoticed. After launching an AI-generated Microsoft Surface ad in January, the company has only now disclosed its use of AI.
The use of an AI host has generated some backlash as well, especially since neither CADA’s website nor the show itself discloses that the host is AI-generated.
The line between what’s real and what’s artificial is bound to become harder to spot as the technology keeps advancing. You can listen to a snippet of the AI host in The Carpet, which first reported the news.
