In an interview last week, prolific filmmaker Tyler Perry opened up about why his ambitious $800 million expansion plans for his Atlanta studio complex are now on pause. He admitted being blown away by AI systems like OpenAI's new Sora, which can generate remarkably sophisticated video content from simple text prompts.

While Perry is keenly aware of the opportunities this presents, he also sounded the alarm on the potential for massive job displacement in entertainment.

He is among many who have raised concerns about AI's impact on the industry. A recent study emphasized that Hollywood jobs face the greatest risk from AI. Even notable actors like Natalie Portman have recently voiced concerns about the potentially harmful consequences of AI.

Jeff Bezos, Microsoft, Nvidia, and other tech leaders are making a huge investment in Figure AI, a robotics startup aiming to transform labor with humanoid robots. According to Bloomberg, Figure AI has raised a massive $675 million in funding, with a pre-money valuation of roughly $2 billion:

  • Jeff Bezos is leading the round, investing $100 million through his firm Explore Investments.

  • Microsoft is pitching in $95 million.

  • Nvidia and an Amazon-affiliated fund are each investing $50 million.

  • OpenAI, an early backer, is adding $5 million more to the round

With backing from high-profile names in tech and AI like Bezos and OpenAI, it's clear investors see massive potential in Figure's humanoid robots, which seem ready to take on Tesla, Boston Dynamics, and others in the AI robot race.
