OPENAI

Eight US Newspapers Sue OpenAI and Microsoft for Copyright Infringement 🔥

Eight U.S. publishers are suing OpenAI and Microsoft, alleging massive copyright infringement.

Details:

  • The publishers, including the New York Daily News, the Chicago Tribune, and The Denver Post, accuse the tech giants of unlawfully using millions of copyrighted articles to train their AI systems without obtaining proper licenses or compensating the content creators.

  • The publishers claim they have invested billions of dollars in local journalism and reporting, which OpenAI and Microsoft have effectively "stolen" for their commercial AI products.

  • The indictment also alleges that the AI sometimes generates inaccurate information or "hallucinations" falsely attributed to the publishers, damaging their credibility.

This case is one of many in the ongoing conflict between AI technology and copyright law. It joins similar ongoing lawsuits against Microsoft and OpenAI brought by the New York Times and news outlets The Intercept, Raw Story, and AlterNet.
