Let's go through the months and recap the developments in the world of AI this year.
January
In January, Microsoft and OpenAI announced a strategic alliance, with Microsoft investing $10 billion in OpenAI over several years.
The user base for ChatGPT skyrocketed, increasing from 266 million to 616 million.
February
Stanford scholars created DetectGPT, the initial tool in a series designed to distinguish human from AI-generated text.
Meta launches Llama, a large language model with 65 billion parameters, setting new benchmarks in the AI industry.
Open AI announces their paid subscription called ChatGPT Plus.
Google announces Bard its own chatbot to compete with ChatGPT, just days later, Microsoft announces its Bing chatbot.
March

1. ChatGPT
Unsurprisingly, Open AI’s chatbot takes the first place as the most used AI tool of the year, with a total of 14.6 billion visits.
2. Character.ai
This chatbot has a great ability to generate responses that feel truly human, mimicking almost exactly what you would expect the characters would say if they were real. This helped it gain great popularity and reach 3.8 billion visits
3. Quillbot
A Paraphraser that helps you write better, faster, and smarter. It is a very easy to use tool that reached 1.1 billion visits this year.
4. Midjourney
The best tool for AI image generation, got a significant update a week ago and despite there being free alternatives to it, it still maintains its popularity due to its superior quality images. It reached 500.4 million visits this year.
5. Hugging Face
Hugging Face is a machine learning (ML) and data science platform and community that helps users build, deploy and train machine learning models. It reached 316.6M visits.
6. Bard
Google’s conversational AI tool, a direct competitor to ChatGPT. It reached 241.6M visits
7. NovelAI
The AI storyteller, offers: AI-assisted authorship, storytelling, virtual companionship, or simply a LLM powered sandbox for your imagination. It reached 238.7M visits.
8. Capcut
CapCut is an all-in-one creative platform powered by AI that enables video editing and image design. The tool got 203.8M visits this year
9. Janitor AI
This chatbot offers a diverse array of AI characters to interact with, providing a personalized and unique chat experience. It had 192.4M visits this year.
10. Civitai
CivitAI is a powerful art generation tool that uses Stable Diffusion to create art and images. It reached 177.2M visits this year
